what's in the carry-on for spring travel

all the chic things I'm stuffing my roller bag with

March marks the start of the planning season for summer trips - at least for my travel-obsessed self and my work as an advisor. While I’m actively daydreaming and thinking of spanish seas in June, I’m also treating myself to little spring respites. Though, in all transparency, I’m blessed to live in Southern California - with summer being the normal state.

I treated myself to a new carry-on recently, of course prompting some getaways to see her new wheels in action. There are practical packers and then there is me. The stilletos are coming. The billowy scarf I plan to wear in the off chance I’m caught in a convertible on a windy road. Because why save my nice pieces for “someday” and not let them see the world with you?

Here’s what I’m finding so very chic for spring travel fashion:

Low-Rise Denim Trousers

Not jeans, dark wash denim slacks with that breezy and soft feel that lets you blur the lines between business meeting and Saturday at the museum. I have a vintage pair from Calvin Klein, but I am always on the lookout for more.

Mega Sunnies

Quintessential to be that woman at the airport with never-ending secrets and the audacity to be seen. A cornerstone of the diva uniform - I prefer vintage designer ones when I can get my paws on some, but cheap versions also suffice (especially since I tend to forget them at hotel pools a bit too often)

Statement Silver

Been loving the idea of a unique conversation piece of metal somewhere on you. Whether that’s an eyebrow piercing or some free-form silver bangles. Also love the idea of a scarf clip around a necktie as seen below.

Pirate-esque and Billowy Blouses

I love a romantic shift for spring travel, lots of off-white and ruffled sleeves. I see myself in the meadows or on a patio for brunch in one of these.

Fem shoes

Trading in my loafers and heavy-soled platform boots for open-toed kitten heels and dainty ballet flats. I love embodying my masc side in the autumn and winter - but spring is time for the fairy princess in me to be unleashed. I look for solid colored flats and unique embellishments.
